Our first artist on this edition of the mag goes by the name of GES, GES an international artist coming all the way from Ireland has had a stellar year so far in 2023 backing up a successful year in 2022, with a huge 5 track EP titled "No Bueno" which delivers GES's dynamic take on 2000s tribal influenced techno. You may also know GES from tracks such as "E SAMBA" & "Mas Que Nada" on Soundcloud. GES is also close with some international artists you might know such as BLK, Kettama, Ben Prophet, RIOT CODE & our own X-Club.
GES's hard work & dedication over the past 2 years hasn't been unnoticed, I would love to see him down in Aus sometime so booking managers out there, get this man a show in Aus please!
We recently caught up with GES to talk about his music career & what we can except from him in the future!
Q & A:
Question 1: When did the drive to start mixing/producing & being involved in Dance music be a big thing for you in your life?
A: I started producing and djing around 4/5 years ago now but only in the last year or so have I really started to put my all into music.
Question 2: What is your favourite thing about being a producer/DJ?
A: I love the connection you can have with the crowd. There’s nothing better than being so present in the moment and losing yourself in the music.
Question 3: Who has given you the drive to get where you are today?
A: I’m very self driven when it comes to my pursuit in the music industry. However, my family are very supportive and definitely help give me that extra push.
Question 4: Who is one of the artists who inspire you the most?
A: I get inspired from all over really. The two that come to mind right now are blk. and RIOT CODE. It’s so inspiring to see the two go from strength to strength in such a short period of time and being able to call these two close friends is even more sick!
Question 5: When will we be seeing you tour Aus? I know there are a few people around Australia waiting to see you perform here in Aus!
A: This is number 1 on my to do list. Australia is the one place I am dying to visit and play ! I’m hoping for the end of this year or the start of next but we will have to see as nothing is planned as of yet.
Question 6: What track by you would you say is your most successful? or what one of your tracks is your favourite release?
A: The most ‘successful’ recently is probably ‘Hit List’ I know it is doing the rounds in Aus and around the world which is very surreal to see. But my favourite is ‘Tchau’ on my latest EP on Ismus. That track has a big place in my heart.
Question 7: What is one piece of advice you can give to someone just starting in the industry?
A: I feel when I get asked this my answer always changes and evolves. Right now I would say, just back yourself all the way. The phrase ‘Nice guys finish last’ can definitely be true within the scene so you definitely have to hold people to this word and just know you worth mainly.
Question 8: Your favourite tune right now?
A: This is a tough one, but I’d probably go with Calvin Harris - You Used To Hold Me. Very rouge shout but it’s such a classic.
Question 9: How thankful are you for networking in the community & do you think this plays a huge role in bookings/connections?
A: Networking is massive for getting shows. Most of the time it’s definitely who you know to be able to get booked. When starting out especially it plays a massive role in my experience.
Question 10: Who are some of the artists here in Melb you contact the most or closest with?
A: My knowledge of who is from where in Australia is lacking hahahaha but my closest pals from Aus are the 6SENSE boys, Oots and STÜM! Hopefully I get the chance to link with them all soon. :)
